1911-D $5 PCGS AU58 Gold CAC

I am pleased to offer this very beautiful key date Indian Head Half Eagle.  I sent this coin in raw thinking it should come back to me in a MS62 holder.  Been doing this long enough to just shake my head when it posted as AU58 from PCGS.  CAC clearly agrees that the 58 number is not correct.  This piece has soft luster remaining in the fields which are the high points on this short lived mint experiment with incuse striking.  The luster is accented by lovely reddish toning in the periphery and very high end mark free fields.   Auction records are all over the place on coin ranging from 58-62 based on the inconsistency of the grading services on this series.  Students of the series know the attributes to look for, and this coin has them . It is technically and visually better than many coins you see in 62 holders.  Sure to bring a smile every time you pull it out of the box.
